Spectator Safety:

Drag racing is quickly becoming one of the most watched and participated sports in the country. The drag boat racing you will be witnessing is one of the most dangerous in the sport due to the many different hazards of the water.

Enough danger will be witnessed by the spectators; please do not become involved in a dangerous situation yourself. Please obey all marked areas and act responsibly.

The area closed to the lake, where seating is allowed, will be clearly marked. Please move no closer to the water's edge than this mark. If the area is entered by any unauthorized personnel, the boat races will be halted until cleared.

In case of an accident on the water, it is natural to stand for a better view, but please remain in the area in which you were sitting. Crowd movement can deter response of rescue personnel.

Should you decide to enter the pits, remain especially clear of boats being fueled and NEVER smoke near a craft which is receiving fuel. Many of the fuels used by these drag boats are highly explosive and the tip of a carelessly discarded cigarette could create a major disaster for the fueling crews.

Race officials will be at various places along the lake area. Obey their instructions. They're doing their job to allow everyone to enjoy the races and ensure driver, crew and spectator safety.

Parents with young children should NEVER allow their children to visit either the restrooms or the concession stand without accompanying them.

It is understandable that parents with older children, say, teenagers, who have come together may find that they prefer to sit with friends or by themselves in another area. Decide on a time and meeting place away from the lake area before separating and stick to it. Wandering around trying to find a child or parent is annoying to those who are trying to watch and could even provide a distraction to a race driver.

NEVER throw anything into the water. Besides being an everyday common sense rule, throwing something into the water while a race is underway can easily distract a driver trying to control a boat at high speed under almost always unstable conditions. Security personnel have been instructed to expel any person caught throwing anything in the water.

Though unlikely, if a boat should beach itself, remain where you are! Do not try to move towards the craft to "get a better look." Don't invite injury by rushing to such an accident or sitting beyond the safety marker.

If you haven't brought something to provide shade, remember to watch out for the combination of heat and sun. We want you to leave the event as healthy as when you came. Cold drinks are available at the concession stand.

The sanctioning racing association always provides an ambulance on-site during racing hours, should an accident occur.
